Armando Contreras Resigns as President and Chief Executive Officer of United Cerebral Palsy’s National Office

After more than eight years of dedicated service to United Cerebral Palsy (UCP), Armando Contreras has resigned from his position as president and chief executive officer of the international organization. Mr. Contreras will be stepping away from his professional responsibilities to pursue personal interests over the next year.

During his tenure, Mr. Contreras provided visionary leadership that strengthened the UCP Network, expanded partnerships, and advanced the organization’s mission to create a life without limits for people with disabilities. His leadership has been instrumental in enhancing collaboration among UCP Affiliates, elevating the organization’s international presence, and ensuring financial stability for continued growth.

“Leading UCP has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” reflected Mr. Contreras. “I have had the privilege of working alongside a remarkable network of affiliates, partners, and supporters who share an unwavering commitment to inclusion and opportunity for people with disabilities. Together, we have strengthened our foundation, expanded our impact, and positioned UCP for continued success in the years ahead.”

“UCP’s mission endures because of the dedication of its affiliates, the compassion of its supporters, and the resilience of the individuals and families we serve,” he continued. “I am confident that the organization is poised to build on its legacy and continue driving meaningful change for the disability community.”

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the entire UCP Network, I want to express our deepest gratitude to Armando for his exemplary leadership and steadfast dedication to our mission,” added Ouida Spencer, chair of UCP’s Board of Trustees. “His collaborative spirit and strategic vision have fostered stronger connections across the UCP Network and ensured the organization’s continued stability and momentum. As we look to the future, we are confident that UCP is well-positioned to build on this progress and further advance opportunities for people with disabilities. We wish Armando continued success in his future endeavors.”

The Board has initiated a leadership transition process to ensure organizational continuity and the sustained advancement of UCP’s mission. Diane Wilush will serve as interim president and CEO as the organization seeks its next permanent CEO. Ms. Wilush brings over 40 years of experience with UCP, including 25 years as president and CEO of UCP of Georgia and UCP of South Carolina. She also served on the UCP Board of Trustees for six years, including four years as Chair, through 2024. Her extensive experience and deep understanding of the organization will be instrumental in ensuring a seamless transition, both internally with staff and affiliates and externally with our partners and supporters.
