As summoning Scar's spirit requires Kion's powerful roar, Ushari and Janja's clan stole Makini's staff and kidnaps Kiara and brigs her by the Outlands volcano, forcing the Lion Guard to go to the Outlands to rescue Kiara. Just then, Kion gets the idea to track down Muhangus and ask him for directions. Kion is a male lion. He congratulates his son on the victory and accepts this new, brilliant assembling of loyal animals. Once there, Fuli orders Makuu to leave, but he simply laughs at them for having a leader who refuses to use the Roar of the Elders. As the second-born child of the Lion King, Kion served as the leader of the Lion Guard, a team of animals who protect the Pride Lands and defend the Circle of Life. Kion arrives and compliments the hippos, with Bunga adding that everyone loves the new hippo lanes. Kion and the Lion Guard watch from below as Ono and Kulinda attempt to rescue the baby hammerkop from Mpishi. This causes Kion to recall Askari's statement that only one who can let go of the Roar can truly master it. Just then, the Lion Guard runs into a group of elephants that have stopped being chased by the bees, and Kion, Fuli, and Ono piece together that the bees are attracted to Makini's yellow paint. As the Lion Guard draws nearer, they see Fuli being set upon on all sides by Mzingo and his flock. They gather together Bupu's herd, Laini's group, Ma Tembo's herd, and Mbeya's crash ("Pride Landers Unite!"). Kion uses the cliff trail to cut them off and, with Rani's help, defeats them. With the gazelles safe, Kion expresses shame for having run from the Zimwi. Worked up by Makuu's taunts, Kion nearly uses the Roar of the Elders out of anger. Dislikes That night, Kion seeks advice from his grandfather, Mufasa, who suggests that he hold on to hope even in the darkest of times. He attempts to use Hodari's friendship with the Lion Guard to his advantage, but Kion is adamant about Kiburi's banishment and commands the float to return to the Outlands. Kion then gets the idea to call Makuu the crocodile for help. He awakens, irritated, and nearly uses the Roar of the Elders. With Ma Tembo gone, Kion seeks advice from the spirit of his grandfather, Mufasa, who encourages him to not doubt himself. Just then, Thurston's frightened brays attract the Lion Guard's attention, and the team approaches him and his herd, asking what the problem is. The Lion Guard follows the Night Pride through the pass until they behold the Tree of Life for the first time. However, Bunga runs into Cheezi and Chungu, two members of the hyena clan that used to work for Scar. Inside the volcano, Scar reveals himself and Kion instantly recognizes him. No sooner has the Lion Guard escaped when Scar appears in the flames of Pride Rock and tells the Pride Landers to abandon their home. After being healed, he returned to the Pride Lands and relinquished the Roar as well as his role as the Lion Guard's leader to Vitani. Kion during a healing session with Nirmala. Ono offers to find her for them and soon discovers that she is being set upon by the jackals. At peace, Kion and his friends spend the rest of the day together with their family and friends, who welcome them back to the Pride Lands. Confused, the cubs wonder where Nala could have possibly gone. After Fuli departs, Bunga encourages Kion to use the Roar of the Elders to get rid of the floodwaters, but Kion points out that the island could be destroyed in the process. The Lion Guard tags along at Dhahabu's insistence. The group starts to break up and leave, but Kion calls them back. Ushari sneaks up on Kion and slashes his eye, giving him a scar and injecting him with venom. At first, the Pride Landers are tense, but Kion works to defuse the tension. To their shock, they see the landscape covered in snow, a substance that they have never encountered before. Without Kion realizing that this allows Ushari to summon Scar's spirit. With the impending storm, Basi tasks Beshte with creating more hippo lanes, since Basi himself is too injured to walk. The team leaps into battle, but Kenge manages to bite Kion, Fuli, and Beshte, paralyzing them. Beshte questions one of the galagos, Laini, on why they are so upset, and Laini explains that a ferocious leopard has settled into their tree. As Zira walks off to speak to Kion privately, Jasiri comments that she does not trust Zira. However, to Kion's surprise, instead of putting up a fight, Janja simply lets the Guard take the pup without a fight. Ravenous, Mjomba complies and races ahead of the Lion Guard to find his pack. However, the gorillas deliberately circle around the Lion Guard, until Kion realizes their game and yells that the game isn't working. Kion resolves to help the helpless galagos, but before the group can leave, Ono informs the team that Shingo the giraffe is stuck in a tree in Ukuni Woods. After the song, Kifaru laments being unable to reach Tamasha, an event in which rhinos gather near Lake Matope to spar together in the mud. Kion leads the Lion Guard against Makucha, who is refusing to let them pass. Ono soon spots Thurston being beset by Cheezi, Chungu, Goigoi, Nduli, and Tamka. While the other Lion Guard members gather around the show, Ono patrols from the air and catches two baboons from the troop, Mwevi and Mwizi, stealing food from a tree while Uroho continues to run the show. The team then continues on its way.
