AN OPEN LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT & CEO OF UCP NATIONAL
From March 2020
(Includes Resource Links – See below)
Friends,
As President and CEO of UCP National, I want to personally assure you that we are closely monitoring developments regarding COVID-19.
Our goal is to help ensure in these very trying times that UCP National provides everyone with helpful resources and credible information related to COVID-19. With that in mind, here’s some information on precautionary health measures you should take:
- People at Risk for Serious Illnessfrom COVID-19 – Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- Webinar – COVID 19 Update for Long Term Care Settings– CDC
- What do Older Adults and People with DisabilitiesNeed to Know About COVID-19 – Administration for Community Living
- World Health Organization
- For general information about COVID019, visit the CDChomepage.
UCP National is also tracking developments in Congress regarding funding proposals aimed at addressing this crisis. Information on policy and funding developments will be posted here soon.
UCP National sent a press statement this week to reach out to policymakers and the public about why organizations, including our affiliate network, will need tailored assistance in the coming days and weeks, and beyond.
Finally, I close with these thoughts: Today’s crisis presents one of the greatest challenges most of us may ever have to face. While I am convinced that our Affiliate Network in the US and Canada will ultimately come out stronger in the end, our utmost concern must be for those among us who may already be facing difficulties more significant than anyone might have possibly imagined.
It’s with that in mind I would like to acknowledge the extraordinary work UCP Affiliates have been doing for more than 70 years. While we should assume that the challenges ahead will only grow, our resolve to live up to our core mission to serve and empower the disability community will not waver.
Best wishes to all. Stay well, and please ponder these thoughts from Open Future Learning:
“With the right approach it’s just possible that a pandemic could release people from old stories. Extraordinary circumstances offer extraordinary opportunities. Let’s be brave, focus on that possibility, and use crisis as leverage we have always needed to build a future that we didn’t manage to out of the ordinary.”
Sincerely,
Armando A. Contreras
