The UCP Elsie S. Bellows Fund

The UCP Elsie S. Bellows fund is a national program operated by UCP that provides grants for purchasing or repairing assistive-technology equipment for individuals with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities and their families who are in financial need and do not have other funding resources are eligible.

The federal definition of assistive technology is:

“Any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.”

Nominations and funding are made through UCP’s local affiliates, which directly assess an individual’s assistive technology needs and financial qualifications. Some examples of allowable requests for assistive technology include but are not limited to:

  • Wheelchairs (manual and electric)
  • Computer equipment
  • Lifts in the nominee’s own/parent’s van or home
  • Hearing aids
