 Title: Making it Work!

DescriptionEmployment First is a framework for systems change that is centered on the premise that all citizens, including individuals with significant disabilities, are capable of full participation in integrated employment and community life. It is in various stages of implementation at the state level. Some states are moving much more quickly than others and this session will provide attendees successful models of making the shift to community inclusive employment. The speakers will address the challenges, tools for success and opportunities that they have experienced.
     Panelists:
Margaret Farman, CEO, UCP of the North Bay
Melissa Miller, Program Manager, Employment Solutions
Patricia Otter, President & CEO, UCP of Greater Cleveland
Gina Solberg, Director of Employment Services, PROVAIL

Title: The Future of Early Childhood Intervention
     Speaker: James Blackman, MD, MPH
Medical Consultant, UCP National
Medical Director, Cerebral Palsy Alliance Research Foundation

Description: As a part of UCP’s strategic initiatives around engagement, this session will provide some background information on why this is an important initiative and engage affiliates in how they can and wish to be a part of the ongoing discussion. Some questions that will be addressed: What are some best practices? Why is early detection and early intervention in infants not a goal? What has happened with the funding? With the goal of developing early intervention models through a foundation funded project, affiliate feedback on what has or has not been successful, what challenges they face and what legislation needs to change to make early intervention more of a priority will be a part of the session.
